Background
Large one time events
are the focus of the Commercial and Industrial Services Group of Jewell
Industries, Inc. In 1975, shortly after Mr. Jewell founded the company, he
was approached by one of the major construction companies in the Washington
D.C. Metro area to clean up their building before the remainder of the
tenants moved in. The Construction Company was having difficulty in getting
the building accepted by the owner of the building because tenants were
refusing to move in before their floors were cleaned better. The cleaning
crew not only removed all debris inside and outside of the building but
also, thoroughly cleaned the restrooms, all the entrances and office
suites, washed all the windows (inside and outside) and removed all signs
of the recent construction. The construction contractor was immediately
paid the funds that were being held back and the tenants were happy. This
was the beginning of what has been a mutually beneficial relationship
between George Hyman Construction Company and Jewell Industries, Inc. and
launched the Commercial and Industrial Services Group (C & ISG).
Construction Clean up
Construction cleanup
for many of the larger construction firms in the Metro DC and Richmond, Virginia
area has continued to be a mainstay of our business. However we have
expanded into other areas as well. Jewell C &ISG has provided special
cleaning services to fire damaged properties, water treatment plants,
hospitals, schools, office buildings, apartment complexes, town houses, single
family houses, and community centers for whom expert cleaning was a one
time event. JEWELL also cleaned and prepared for use the newly installed
Metro Subway cars for MetroRail.
Special Events
In this era of
specialization organizations have come to realize that it is easier and
often more economical to contract specialty services for one time events
rather than requiring their staff to work overtime. One area where we have
seen new growth due to this refocus is special events such as golf tournaments,
tennis tournaments, etc. We provide annual support for the Legg Mason and
ProServe Tennis Tournaments. This past year we have also provided support
for the Presidents Cup Golf Tournament at the Tent Jones course in Manassas Virginia
as well as the XX Tourney. C &ISG has also provided special cleaning
services for the J.W. Marriott Hotel, Tech World, Suburban
Hospital in Baltimore,
MD, MCI Center,
The Portals I and II, and other customers who required large-scale, one
time janitorial services.
Other Services
The Special Services
Division is, at times, used as "fill-ins" on other contracts held
by JEWELL and other facilities management companies. Staff in this group
has been cross-trained to compliment the services offered by other
divisions of JEWELL INDUSTRIES. We provide:
- in floor maintenance,
- window washing,
- venetian blind cleaning,
- snow/ice removal,
- painting,
- carpet cleaning and
- custodial cleaning
services.
We have or will
obtain any specialized equipment that is required for your particular job
including but not limited mechanical scaffolds, floor burnishers, hydraulic
lifters, buffers, carpet cleaning machines, and pressure washer equipment.
The Special Services
